John Lennon’s places in NYC
I just went on this walking tour with a musician, whose name I can’t reveal, sorry… and I talked about some odd things about the the West Village, which by the way, if you haven’t been in this neighborhood yet, please go! I highly recommend it… Getting lost in its streets for a while to admire the facades of its buildings and restaurants is a must.
For a brief time, these West Village streets had the famous Beatles singer, John Lennon, as a neighbor. Back in the early ’70s, Lennon and his inseparable Yoko Ono moved from the St. Regis Hotel to live in a two-bedroom apartment at 105 Bank St. It is said that they were there only a couple of years to live the experience. from New York. The city of York, far from paparazzi and fans, and this neighborhood was just what they were looking for and was already home to emerging musicians, poets and artists.
My anonymous musician and I had been discussing this and some other stories, but when we got at the former place of the author of the song Imagine, the surprise was enormous because we saw that the entire building was already being torn down!
One of the construction workers told us that he did know that Lennon had lived in one of the apartments at 105 Bank St. (the white color on the right of the photograph), and he even took a photo of the apartment. But we, like Lennon’s song, will have to imagine it only because there was nothing but scaffolding around the entire building, and who knows if when you are reading these lines, anything remains of that place.
Yoko Ono and John Lennon lived at this address for a short time because their apartment was broken into and robbed. Seeing that the area was not as safe as they thought, they moved to a building located on West 72nd Street, which promised greater protection and a great view of Central Park: the Dakota Building.
